Broiled Flowers and summer food...

The pictures seem wonky but it is what it is.
They are my iphone pictures.
The flowers are yellow in the middle of this bed but I see orange here.
Strange...
My flowers are filling in despite the 90+ temps.

I'll take what joy I can get.

The cherry tomato was an experiment but seems to be doing well as long as I fill the
2 liter bottle with water each day.
There are tomatoes almost turning ripe.
This is the best these containers have looked EVER.

I took out a zebra striped grass that took over this bed.
Again I am experimenting here.
This is the east side of my house so shaded after 11 am.
Will the blanket flowers and wave petunias survive and thrive?
Stay tuned...

Shrimp and pasta in a butter, parmesan cheese and a splash of heavy cream sauce
and sweet corn from the "not good enough for the public"
waste trailer.
Two commercial farms here dump all not perfect by size and shape ears.
Anyone can come and fill up a trailer or truck with the "waste" to feed livestock.
It saves the farmer having to dispose of it.
We have harvested it for our table and freezer before the cows get what is left.
I will be freezing it all summer.
They also have cabbages and green beans waste.
Such a shame that consumers don't know or care how food is grown.
Why does the ears of corn need to be perfect in size to buy?
If the media would stop lying about farmers using unnecessary pesticides and fertilizers and or the public would use common sense I wouldn't be blessed with so much free food.
Thank you John Q public for your ignorance!
My neighbors refuse our offer of corn because I can't prove it is
NON GMO, organic, free range, gluten free, etc etc etc.
Do you even know what those terms mean?
If all that is so necessary why are people that insist on all that not perfectly healthy 365?
It seems they get sick from their "healthy" lifestyle way more than my family ever does.
{I was told by my pediatrician they were going to drop my kids from their practice because we only did sports physicals once a year instead of sick calls multiple times like "other" families.}
I asked the neighbors if a corn field is organic and a bird flys over it after being in a non organic field and craps on it....
Do you really think the field is still organic?
Do you really think farmers spray poison for no reason?
Do you think they have money to burn on unnecessary chemicals?
Educate yourself by talking to farmers and companies they utilize to help them be more productive.
Do not believe the media.
Use common sense .

Rant over for today.

  1. Your flowers all look lovely and the beds are so neat and tidy. No small chore considering everything else you handle of a days time. Thanks for sharing all the "pretty." My flowers are just starting to look like they'll actually grow and prosper. As are the weeds. :o(

    1. Oh MamaPea you make me smile. The beds will be destroyed and weedy as soon as I leave for 10 days for fair. I am enjoying them while I can. I like an overfilled "English" style garden bed but can not keep perennials that band together and spill artfully over one another it seems. So i keep starting over and plugging away.

  2. Your flowers look so healthy even with the hot and lousy temps. I do agree with what you say about the foods and people want organic everything. That was a good rant !!!!

    1. Thank you Lynne, I try to not say anything but it's getting too personal. I'll try not to rant in the near future ;-}
